I disagree letting him walk as he earned a contract. This issue I have is they signed others who had no future. He did all that was asked and got the shaft. He was worth the risk.
Cant wait to see what Minny boy he signs to an AHL contract that Connor should have had. Looks like several others Chuck drafted they will also let walk and not sign.
Speaking of Minnesota players, Nick Leddy is a free agent.....

Bill Meltzer: Quick Hits: McClennon,Flyers Daily, TIFH (Parent Retirement) - bmeltzer
Kinda of continuing from the last page. Has anyone brought up the potential issues we have at center differently?
Sean Couturier is our undisputed number 1 center at 7.75 million. Hayes our supposed second line center at 7.14 million. Laughton at 3 million. Frost making basically peanuts but want him in a top 6 center role.
How do our centers sit with you as fans, especially with these 3 underachieving millionaires potentially holding back a young talent? Most think Laughton should be our next captain. Do any of you think we should trade him? |

My problem with Fletcher not extending him an ELC is that skating issues never stopped him before..like Strome....Radcliffe ....Brink and oh yeah how about Linblom....so its more because he is small and not blazing fast. There are a bunch of players that will not be resigned opening up contract slots....so why not try to develop a player that has a some upside. Its one thing to not be loyal to Hextalla picks its another when you don't sign your own. It shows why our talent pool went from 2nd in the league to 20 something. |

I wouldn't trade Laughton. If this team ever gets its act together Laughton is one of those versatile players you can move up and down the lineup. Plus he can play either wing or center. I think he has value and his contract isn't that bad.

Our fans will whine about anything these days. Will fans blame Chuck and complain when no one else signs McClennon? |

I am fine with Coots at one. I would prefer that Hayes is the third center. Need to develop a #2 or bring one in. I think JVR and Lindblom are removed from this roster ahead of Laughton. I do not think the Flyers should trade Laughton but I am not 100% against trading anyone on this roster really. Some make more sense than others but I am open to anything really.

I think someone will sign McClennon. Whether it'll be an NHL entry-level deal or an AHL deal, I don't know. But I think he'll get signed.

It is a wasted asset is it not? when you look where this organization is at you need to take a chance on every lottery ticket t you have in house.
Well who else do you blame for not signing him? Chuck also drafted him so it is a double whammy.

No, many teams choose not to sign some players. A 6th round pick is not likely to become anything substantial. You cant waste a contract slot on every guy because theres always a 1% chance. They dont believe this guy has a shot to be a NHLer. The Flyers have enough low percentage prospects
You are doing what you do best making a mountain out of mole hills.

Wasted may be too harsh of a word. Maybe misused asset? Plenty of late draft picks aren’t signed every single year. It’s part of the process (in most pro leagues). I’m sure fans and some beats will talk about this guy as the next St. Louis though. |

A team is limited to 50 NHL contracts. Have to pick and choose. Can't sign everybody.

The defending continues. Not shocked. Also what other teams do is irrelevant. Like the flyers.
Well what will you say when they waste a contract on a 28 year old AHL guy from minny with zero upside? |

Lindblom? You mean the guy most posters want to get rid of? You are ignoring the crucial difference between the players you mentioned and McClennon. His size. The guy is 5'8 and has a skating issue. Skating a huge part of todays NHL. If you dont have the size, you need to have the speed.

Yes. He could sign an AHL deal if he doesn't get an ELC somewhere.

I dont care who they sign as long as they fit the role. If Fletcher signs any middle age players, they are likely going to be short term depth roles or AHL Vets if we dont have any of those left. I dont pay much attention to the phantoms.
Its not defending, its called not being a diva over a franking 6th round pick. They made a judgement call, one that I would have been fine with either way. The choice to not sign him literally doesnt matter. Even if he does become a NHL player he would be at best a run of the mill player that could be replaced as easily as Nick Seeler.
